In 2020, many local business and community members were directly affected by the uprising following George Floyd’s murder. The Foundation responded quickly and solicited grant recommendations from businesses and organizations working to rebuild and recover from damages to their buildings and interruptions to their services. All of this was compounded by the ongoing pandemic.

Based on our conversations in community, we prioritized funding by geography and to culturally based organizations with an emphasis on supporting businesses owned by Black, Indigenous and people of color. Rebuild and Recovery Grants were awarded through an invitation-only process given the urgency of the situation.

The Racial Justice Grants Committee approved $2.7 million in grants to support recovery and rebuilding efforts in the summer of 2020. Below are the Rebuild and Recovery Program grants we have made to date:
